My name is Raul Costa Duarte. I was born October 10, 1980 in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais state, Brazil. I've been producing hard eletronic music since 1999. At first, I was making stupid hard ass gabba mixed with cartoon music and bad jokes with Fast Tracker 2. I moved to using Buzz Tracker in 2001 and started to make breakcore, junglecore, hardcore and other stuff under the alias Retrigger. It's hard to point out artists that have influence on my sound, because they are many and do not always sound like me. Artists I most admire in the breakcore scene are Patric Catani, Bombardier, Somatic Responses and Venetian Snares. I LOVE many other breakcore artists and it would be really hard to make a list for you on this page. Outside our lovely scene it can be waaaay harder, but i can say Dead Kennedys is my favorite punk band ever and Sonic Youth live changed the way I saw music at the time. I can't forget the influence that jungle, industrial hardcore, dancehall and hip hop has over my sound (as well as most of breakcore), so if you are trying to understand the music by comparisons, retrigger might sound like really broken jungle with hard kicks, distorted basslines and dancehall/hip hop vocals going time to time. You pick all that up, and distort again. That's me! Nice to meet you! Obviously, that's a simplification and you can find a lot of diversity in my tracks. Well... i guess. After all these years (cuz you know.... 5 years makes you old enuff to talk like that) the sound has changed, improved in my opinion, and stuff happened. I have released a 12", played several gigs here in Brasil and toured Europe in the winter of 2004. After the tour, I have come back with a new aim: live sets. Yeah, playing live is fucking awesome and my plan is to make better and better live sets, with newer features and other stupidity. Now that I have a MIDI controller, there is a totally new ground to explore and shit to do. Let's see what i can do. Still in 2004, I have started a new project with a big friend of mine, Rafael Ferreira. We are doing some kind of breakcore/rockandroll/303 tunes under the name of Arrebite, and hopefully we are releasing a 12" till the end of this year. More news to come... stay tuned. |
